Press Release: National Food Crisis Forum: Hunger Worsens in South Africa
On the 31st of March 2021, the Co-operative and Policy Alternative Centre (COPAC) and the South African Food Sovereignty Campaign (SAFSC) convened the National Food Crisis Forum to discuss the worsening food crisis in South Africa and transformative strategies from below. The NFCF calls for a Universal Basic Income Grant (#UBIGNOW see our policy document) to avoid widespread hunger; and calls on the City of Cape Town to abandon its reckless enclosure of the peoples’ commons, to protect the unique Philippi Horticultural Area and support the small scale farmers who feed the city.
