THE TARA ROKPA CENTRE'S PERMACULTURE TRAINING SITE WORKS WITH NATURE AND SHARES WITH PEOPLE IN AN ATTEMPT TO DEVELOP A MORE SUSTAINABLE AND ABUNDANT FUTURE
WHO WE ARE
This training project is the environmental wing of the Tara Rokpa Centre. We are situated near Groot Marico in the North West Province of South Africa.
We are developing an environmental conservation, education and sustainability centre for the local community but we will become an appropriate development model for the North West and South Africa as a whole.
The permaculture training project aspires to preserve and extend natural environmental systems through the principles of permaculture, agroforestry and natural farming models. These integrate land, resources, people and the environment through mutually beneficial synergies.
WHAT WE DO
The Permaculture Project studies and applies whole-systems design solutions to address all aspects relating to human needs. These include developing models in the following fields:
– agriculture,
– water harvesting and hydrology,
– energy systems,
– natural building,
– forestry,
– waste management,
– animal systems,
– appropriate technology,
– local economics,
and community development.
OUR VISION
The vision for the project is to develop a holistically designed and integrated training and demonstration centre which benefits the earth and all of its inhabitants.
We aim to achieve the following objectives for the project site:
– Food security
– Water security
– Local economy
– Endemic ecosystem rehabilitation
– Skills development
– An educational program
– Application of sustainable and appropriate technologies
